Operations Update

The Lapa mine poured its first gold and reached commercial production on May 1, 2009, becoming Agnico-Eagle’s third mine to open in the Abitibi region of northwestern Quebec. All Lapa ore is trucked to the processing facility at LaRonde site, 11 kilometres to the west. As of December 31, 2011, the Company’s richest gold mine has proven and probable reserves containing approximately 0.5 million ounces of gold* (2.4 million tonnes grading 6.5 grams/tonne gold).

Q1 2012

  • In Q1 2012, payable gold production of 28,499 ounces at a total cash cost per ounce of $664. Processed 158,000 tonnes of ore (1,738 tonnes/day), with minesite costs of C$120 per tonne. Lapa circuit now consistently exceeds design rate of 1,500 tonnes/day.
  • Exploration focusing on excavating and drilling from exploration drifts about 1,000 metres below surface to expand resources east and west of current mine workings.
